Jouni Salo joins the Voland team as an Industrial Advisor! In this role, Jouni identifies interesting companies within the industrial, maritime, and equipment manufacturing sectors and provides the team with insights on company evaluations from an end-customer perspective. Additionally, he supports companies within the Voland family with industrial go-to-market strategies and board work.
Having followed Voland’s operations from the very beginning and previously provided project-based consulting, this move represents the formalization of an existing partnership rather than the start of a new one.
"I am already familiar with the people at Voland, and I have seen firsthand how they operate when things don't go according to plan. That is the best possible reference," says Jouni.
Jouni brings with him practical experience regarding the day-to-day realities of industrial customers. He has extensive experience working with investment decisions and understands the criteria and timeframes used to evaluate solutions in the industrial sector.
Most recently, Jouni worked at Unikie as Director of Enterprise Development and Ecosystems. Prior to that, he worked with maritime software and held board and advisory roles in several technology and industrial companies.
As a fourth-generation owner, Jouni is also well-versed in the dynamics of family-owned industrial businesses. He serves as the Chairman of the Board for the family company, Hollming.
In Jouni’s view, the spirit of partnership rarely manifests as grand gestures in everyday life. "Most often, it comes down to the right contact at the right time—assistance with a key hire or a conversation where you can speak candidly. That requires trust and a partner who is available when needed, not just at scheduled times. It is essential that the entrepreneur retains control. Having a co-entrepreneur means you don’t have to solve everything alone."
In his spare time, you’ll find Jouni with his family, working on hobby cars, or writing a book about the thorny problems companies face. For him, writing is a way to organize his observations.
